CALVIÀ INCREASES ITS DESEASONALIZING OFFER

The consistory signs an agreement with both, the Peguera-Cala Fornells Hotel Association and the company Sport Leisure & Life, which will allow to gather thousands of people in the municipality, thanks to sport, during the low season months.

Today, the Calvià Town Hall has given another step forward within its fight against the tourist seasonal standstill with the signing of the agreement through which four sport trials of outstanding international interest  will be carried out during the course of the forthcoming four years. The signatories of the document have been, apart from the consistory´s Mayor, Manuel Onieva, the President of the Peguera and Cala Fornells Hotel Association, Miguel Ángel Jiménez, the Secretary of the Foundation Calvià 2004, Patricia Domínguez and the person in charge of the company Sport Leisure & Life and Director General of ICAN, Sunil Bhardwaj.

The municipal representatives are very pleased with the signing of the agreement today, as it is considered the best course to follow within these difficult times in which we are submerged in. In fact, in Calvià, the collaboration between private companies and the Town Hall has achieved to optimize resources and undertake projects able to extend, as far as possible, the tourist season.

In this sense, it is to be highlighted also, the fact that the organisers of the event have chosen Calvià to carry out this event which shows the high quality of the sport facilities which the municipality counts with, facilities which are being considered international wide as it has been proven at the different tourist fairs in which the municipality has been represented.

Thanks to this agreement signed this morning, the company Sport Leisure & Life SL commits itself to organize the ICAN triathlon in Peguera, the Costa de Calvià International Marathon in Magalluf and a minimum of two more popular trials in the municipality, during the course of the year.

TWO "Q"´S FOR TOURIST QUALITY

The Calvià Town Hall has been awarded, for its good job made in terms of tourist quality, for the Palmanova beach and the five Municipal Tourist Information Offices.

The Calvià Town Hall received, from the Secretary General for Tourism, Isabel Borrego, a double recognition of the “Q” for Tourist Quality, for the Palmanova beach, which renews this certificate for the third time, and the five Municipal Tourist Information Offices existing in the municipality, last Friday.

The prizes, which were presented in Fitur, the most important tourist fair nation wide, were collected by the Deputy Mayor for Coast Lines, Daniel Perpiñá, and which means the  acknowledgement for the tourist quality, which Calvià offers. The establishments awarded with the “Q” for Quality have passed through strict audits which guarantee the quality, security and professionalism of their services. Thus, guaranteeing the best tourist experience possible for the clients.

The Palmanova beach has renewed this certificate for the third time, which shows the municipal  commitment in the increase of the quality of our beach services. On the other hand, the Municipal Tourist Information Offices, have become the first civil service on the Balearic Islands holding this   recognition for Quality, in great measure for the work done by the civil servants who have known how to improve the services, provided by a municipality such as Calvià, for the visitors received every year.

CLEAN UP OF CALA FIGUERA BEACH

The Balearic Young Navigators Association, in collaboration with the Calvià Town Hall and the company Teka , has carried out, another cleaning action on the municipality´s coast line.

The Balearic Young Navigators Association, in collaboration with the Calvià Town Hall and the company Teka , has carried out, another cleaning action on the municipality´s coast line.  The elected area was Cala Figuera, which access is not able by a non existing footpath, thus being a beach without an ordinary municipal cleaning service. In total, almost a ton of waste materials has been removed.

The cleaning sessions have counted with the participation of 15 volunteers from the Balearic Young Navigators Association, which is carrying out a cleaning campaign of  beaches around Majorca, on 9th and 10th August.
Once the work finished, the collected waste materials were removed, with a Civil Defence vessel, to Calvià 2000 for their adequate treatment.

Both, the Cala Figuera´s bearings and its narrow orography make that all the waste materials dragged in by the ocean currents which enter on the cove, get anchored unableing its exit with the continuous current change. Therefore, it is important that  an annual cleaning action is organized, in which  the Calvià Town Hall´s Departments for Environment and Maintenance collaborate together with the Local Police, Civil Defence and  Calvià 2000.

The Son Matías beach has recovered the quality emblem, this year, although the Magaluf beach has lost it, however, it is expected to recuperate it next year, thus, achieving ten flags of ten submitted applications.  Also, it is to be recalled that the municipality is achieving prestige internationalwide thanks to its commitment with the accessible tourism. Thus, convert Calvià in an International reference within the tourist offer for disabled people and at the same time increase the market´s share and fight against the tourist stationalisation, was the premise marked, then, by the Calvià Town Hall and through which they have been working for. Now, the government team, directed by the Mayor Carlos Delgado, has given an important step forward to achieve this objective, with the publishment of the new "Accessible Calvià" guide, a perfect tool which compiles the Calvià´s complete tourist offer and the level of accessibility presented. And, once more, the Town Hall has been pioneer with the publishing of this guide through which its intention is to offer objective and detailed information of all the tourist establishments in the municipality in order to let anyone, evaluate and decide which of the  registered in the "Accessible Calvià" guide is the best one according to their necessities and encourage, therefore, the visit of this group of people  to the municipality of Calvià.

Published by the Town Hall and by the Foundation Calvià 2004 in Spanish, English and German, this first guide, which will be a reference for future ones in which the participation of more  companies, connected to the sector is expected, offers detailed information about the accessibility´s criterion of the sport facilities, beaches, hotels, restaurants and bars, leisure, health centres, transport, tourist offices, etc., as well as telephones of interest in the municipality and assistance service at the Spanish airports for people with reduced mobility.

The guide will be available in all and each of the Tourist Information Offices in the municipality and also in the more than 20 tourist fairs to which the Town Hall attends to promote the accessible tourism.  Also, it is to be recalled that Calvià attended the Rehacare Fair (Düsseldorf) to know, first hand, of the market´s latest novelties regarding the elimination of architectural barriers, also is the first Spanish municipality integrating in the Red Europea de Turismo Accesible (ENAT) European Accessible Tourism Network, from where the "Turismo para Todos" (Tourism for all), is promoted.

The guide will also have its establishment in a digital format and will be introduced in the municipal tourist promotion channels such as the web visitcalvia.com.

This guide´s publishment is added to the various actions that the Town Hall has developed to offer a destination available for everybody, with no distinction and/or exclusion and to help them to be tourists with total rights, a 40% of the world´s popullation who, on the contrary, would not be able to accomplish.

The disabled people group, represents the 9% of the Spanish popullation and the 10% of the European popullation and more than 500 million of people in the world are integrated in it. This  part of the popullation, collaborate within the tourist destationalisation; the fact is that a 51% of this group, according to the European Union, do not have work responsibilities, which makes it easier for them, to travel at any time of the year.

NEW WALK PATH BETWEEN CALVIÀ AND ES CAPDELLÀ

The Mayor inaugurated this new natural itinerary which is included in the important tourist hiking routes network which the municipality counts with

More than 300 people attended  the inauguration of the  new  pedestrian  path and cycle track which links both, the village of Calvià and es Capdellà, covering by foot or  bicycle, the 1,7 kilometre route and enjoying of its incomparable natural environment, last Saturday.
This new natural itinerary, which counts with the width of two metres  and a 1,17%  medium level change, parallel to the main road, was inaugurated by the Mayor Carlos Delgado who also, together with  his government team, covered mentioned route.

The works, which have meant an investment of  543.189 euros and which have been totally financed by the Calvià Town Hall, started last 15th September and have been carried out by the company Vías y Obras Públicas S.A. (Vopsa). With its implementation, not only the neighbours historical claim  has come true but the Town Hall has given a step forward within its goal of  promoting tourist routes which develop the practice of a sport activity with an added cultural, patrimonial or historical value.

As it will be recalled, the Town Hall decided, half year ago, due to the carelessness shown by the  Consell de Mallorca, to carry out  another natura intinerary, which as in this occasion,  had also been claimed numerous times by both, the neighbours and the hoteliers from the area. We are talking about  the natura itinerary which links Peguera with es Capdellà which, with the one inaugurated last Saturday, make a tourist natural network which, with no doubt, will contribute to the all year round tourism.

Furthermore, and within this same action line, the Town Hall has carried out other important works with the aim of offering new products with which will alleviate the tourist seasonal standstill, such as the  Passeig Calvià extension with new eight kilometres, carried out during the last legislature or the  four new itineraries, with more than 35 kilometres, which pass through the incomparable Galatzó public estate. On the other hand, and within this same goal, it is to be also highlighted, the creation  of the disembark routes, at the end of 2009, which offer the walker, to relive the places where the King James I passed  by, more than 700 years ago.

Finally, it is to be recalled that, with the new walk path for pedestrians and cyclists between Calvià and es Capdellà, the security conditions, for both,  have remarkably improved, as up to now, if they wanted to do this route, they had to do it, by the verge of the road.
