The Mayor of Calvià, Carlos Delgado,  presented, together with the General Director for Tourism, Jaime Martínez; the Sport for Disabled  Department Manager, Rafael Winckelmann and the municipal spokesman, Manuel Onieva, the Calvià´s  Accessible Tourism Plan, an ambitious, innovative and pioneer measure on the Balearic Islands which comes up to improve and diversify the tourist offer in Calvià, in the research of new ways to  alleviate the tourist seasonal standstill and     to stimulate the sector.

The  Accessible Tourism Plan, which aim is to convert the municipality in a  reference for  the  disabled people´s tourist offer,  rotates  three main worklines: the creation of  a new  accessible tourism offer; its promotion and the municipal plan for the  universal accessibility  and the elimination of barriers  which includes  developments  in public and  private spheres.

Calvià´s aim is to offer a destination to everybody , with no distinction and /or exclusion,  and  therefore making possible  the consecution of a real tourism for everybody at the same time the market quota increases, alleviates the tourist seasonal standstill and stimulates the sector, main municipal economic driving force.

 
The accessible tourism permits  to the 40% of  the world´s popullation, have total rights and which on the contrary, these tourists would not have. Therefore, offer this group, which represents the 9% of the Spanish popullation and the 10% of the European popullation; beaches, sport facilities, tourist routes also  in the Galatzó Estate  and totally adapted walks; improve the tourists and residents accessibility to all buildings and public open  areas.

Both, the Town Hall´s adhesion  to the (ENAT), European Network for Accessible Tourism and the edition, next year, of a new accessible  tourist guide, which will catalogue the requesting establishments, depending on the level of accessibility, are complemented  within the tourist promotion, which Calvià Town Hall offers, also  attending to the sector fairs, as main Plan working lines.
